About Latin Percussion
In the 1960's, a young mechanical engineer named Martin Cohen realized that because of the government-imposed trade embargo against Cuba, finding good Latin instruments in the US was a difficult prospect. Cohen put his engineering skills to use and created his own set of bongos, and unknowingly started the Latin Percussion story. Today, LP has over 500 endorsers, a list including Tito Puente, "Patato" Valdez, Carlos Santana, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Armando Peraza. Latin Percussion knows that because these are some of the best Latin musicians, their equipment must be the best as well. The company that started in the Cohen garage as a small family operation has grown to become Latin Percussion, the world's largest producer of hand percussion instruments.
