Comments about SKB Cases PH Series: Pull Handle Case: 17 1/4" H x 26 5/8" W x 19 1/2" D (outside):
I attend conventions with unusual items that simply can not be crushed. After numerous disasters with standard luggage, I was ready to try something durable. As a frequent flier, I am permitted 70lbs per bag I check, so standard luggage winds up being shattered by baggage handlers upset with my unusually heavy bags. One bag lost its top handle when the buckle broke. I knew I needed a crush-proof throw-proof tough-handled case to replace them all, and this SKB is it. The unusually high lid makes this perfect for the oversized item I carry in it, and there is space to spare for the heavy stuff too. Unlike my wonderfully tough Pelican, this case is not heavy when it's empty - but it is just as durable. The light empty weight of this SKB is a big plus for capacity, I can put a lot more in it and not go over permitted weight. So, where's the down side? Well, the only cons I can come up with: the locks are lacking in security, and there is no place to add your own. The wheels are a tad bit unprotected, but with the warranty, who cares. And finally, the balance is a bit bottom heavy when rolling it with the handle extended, so it has to tip forward a bit past comfortable - unless you load something else on top of it, which actually works pretty well! I still like the Pelican case, but at 10 fewer pounds in empty weight, this SKB is a much better value for flying or shipping - and it looks nicer too. This case is carefully measured to be exactly as big as allowed - 62 linear inches, L+W+H, for most airlines.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was speedy, on time, and exactly as expected. The case was packaged in a very heavy duty double corrugated box, and arrived in perfect condition. UPS tried to rough it up, and failed to put a nick or scratch on it. Even with all of that, the box was still good enough to ship a second time for something else unrelated.
